e-SIDES at CPDP 2019 - Computers, Privacy and Data Protection Conference
The 12th edition of the international conference Computers, Privacy and Data Protection - CPDP2019 will take place from 30th January to the 1st February 2019 in Brussels, Belgium. The overarching theme of the 2019 edition is "Data Protection and Democracy".
The Cambridge Analytica scandal and the coming into force of the GDPR on May 25 put once again data protection at the centre of the scene and stressed its vital importance for the health of democracies, not only for the protection of individuals, but also of the core values and the common good.
CPDP2019 will highlight data protection as a core element of a democratic society and will address the following questions:
- Will the GDPR serve as a model for a new standard of data privacy around the world?
- Will the new data protection and privacy frameworks in Europe and elsewhere make a difference? Could they be effectively enforced?
- What is data protection beyond legislation?
e-SIDES, in collaboration with other ICT-18 research projects, is planning to take part in the conference and share insights on how the GDPR’s transparency, information and control requirements could help to create an environment in which citizens feel that they can trust organisations collecting and processing their personal data.
