Getting ready for ICT 2018

September 26, 2018 in General

e-SIDES will be present at ICT 2018 in Vienna (4-6 December), join our session "Building the Privacy and Security Research Agenda for Big Data" and enjoy a fully interactive, technology supported and open workshop.

When: 05/12/2018 (16:30-17:15)

Where: Hall L7, Austria Center

Data-driven innovation is deeply transforming society and the economy. Although there are many potential economic and social benefits this innovation also brings new challenges for individual and collective privacy, security, as well as democracy and participation.

We invite researchers examining privacy preserving technologies (PPTs) and Big Data analytics and worrying about privacy and ethical issues, to share their concerns, their success stories, and their opinions to guide forwards the research in this field. We will explore questions including:

  • Can technology guarantee the anonymisation of personal data without losing the value added of analytics?
  • What is the best approach to design privacy-aware solutions and services without falling into ethical traps, such as fostering discrimination and unfairness?
  • Which data technologies are best to preserve privacy and security?
  • Can we move from technology as the problem (violating privacy) to technology as the solution?

This workshop will leverage the research outcomes of the e-SIDES project that has classified the main PPTs to assess with participants the state of the art, discuss the emerging challenges, and drive a collaborative discussion on the next research agenda for RRI in this field.
